FSSAI issues clarification with regard to sampling of soybean De-Oiled cakes or soybean meals intended for use in poultry and animal feed.

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India vide its notification dated 17th December 2021 has clarified that the products intended for animal feed do not fall under the definition of “Food” as defined under Section 3(1)(j) of FSS Act, 2006.

It has been brought to the notice of FSSAI that food safety officers in certain states are drawing sample of soybean De-oiled cakes/soybean meals which are specifically intended for use in poultry and animal feed during inspection of units of soybean processors/manufacturer.

Therefore, the commissioner of Food Safety of all states/UTs and Central Licensing authorities are advised to direct the concerned food safety officers under their jurisdiction to desist from sampling of soybean de-oiled cakes or soybean meals intended for use in poultry and animal feed while drawing samples of the products.
