FSSAI have published a Notification dated 9th December 2019 removing the Total soluble solid parameters to reduce sugar formulations.

The FSSAI have published a Notification dated 9th December 2019 removing the ‘Total soluble Solid’ parameters in the Food Safety and Standards ( Food Products Standards and food Additives), Regulations to reduce sugar formulations.

The draft Food Safety and Standards ( Food Products Standards and food Additives) Amendment Regulations was notified on 12-12-2018 inviting comments from stakeholders. The amendment suggested deletion of the parameter ‘total soluble solid’ and the related values.

The stakeholders has submitted grievance that even though they are ready with their products with reduced sugar formulations, they can’t be launched because the amendment is still pending to be issued.

As the Notification will take some more time, the FSSAI has deleted the provisions providing for ‘Total Soluble Solid’ vide this notification.
