The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India vide its notification dated 25th September 2020 has issued directions regarding display of “Date of Manufacturing” and “Best Before Date” in case of pre-packaged and pre-packed sweets.
FSSAI has made it mandatory for FBOs to display ‘best before date’ of non-packaged sweets with effect from 1st October as part of its efforts to ensure safe safety and might also display the date of manufacturing voluntarily.
The FBOs shall decide and display the ‘Best before Date’ of sweets depending on the nature of the products and the local conditions. An indicative list of the shelf life of various types of sweets is available on the FSSAI website.
