FSSAI clarification on procedure for handling complaints/grievances/references

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India vide circular dated 2nd December, 2021 has clarified that in case of complaints/grievances/references etc. received by the State Food Authorities against the FBOs having central licenses operating in the respective State/UT, the same shall be forwarded to the concerned Regional Director of FSSAI. Such complaints shall be examined/scrutinized by the concerned Regional Director and further action shall be taken by him/her, under intimation to the concerned Commissioner of Food Safety.

Further, in case any assistance is required from the State Food Authorities in such matters, including causing the inspections through State FBOs in the premises of FBOs having central licenses, the same shall be requested by the concerned Regional Director of FSSAI with the Office of the concerned Commissioner of Food Safety. However, in such cases where the inspection of the centrally licensed premises has been undertaken by the State FBOs, the inspection report shall be submitted to the concerned CLA under intimation to the concerned Regional Director, FSSAI and further action on the same shall be taken by the concerned Central Licensing Authority (CLA) as per the provisions of FSS Act, 2006 & Rules/Regulations made thereunder.
