The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) inspected the status of food safety ecosystem including surveillance, food testing infrastructure, implementation of Eat Right India initiatives, manpower etc. in the state of Telangana. A press release to this effect was issued by the FSSAI on 17th January, 2023.
The CEO directed the State Authority to focus on periodic risk-based inspections, third party audits, surveillance drives to ensure safety and quality of food products available in the market.
Moreover, since the year 2023 has been declared as the ‘International Year of Millets’, the CEO advised the officers to promote, educate and create awareness among the public about the importance of millets through different media.
The CEO also stressed on the importance of creating awareness among the public through the Eat Right India movement and transform the food ecosystem of the country through its benchmarking and certification schemes and cluster initiatives to improve the infrastructure and hygiene compliance levels of food establishments, be it Jails, Hospitals, Educational Institutions, Schools, Places of Worship, Street food vendors, as well as Fruits & Vegetables Markets.
The CEO also encouraged increased participation of women in Eat Right India initiatives and launched the Food Safety Display Boards in Telugu language.
