From Paper to Pixels: Puducherry Mandates Digital Factories Act Returns

In a bid to streamline administrative processes and reduce compliance burdens, the Government of Puducherry has issued an order mandating the submission of half-yearly returns under the Factories Act, 1948, through online channels only. Effective immediately, factories operating within Puducherry are required to utilize the dedicated online portal hosted on the Labour Department’s website (https://labour.py.gov.in) for these submissions. This notification was published on June 21, 2024.

This directive marks a significant shift from the previous practice of physical submission, aiming to enhance efficiency and accessibility while aligning with contemporary digital standards. By eliminating the need for physical submissions, the government aims to simplify procedures and expedite regulatory compliance for industrial establishments across the region.

This move underscores Puducherry’s commitment to leveraging technology to facilitate smoother governance processes and foster a more business-friendly environment. Industrial stakeholders are encouraged to promptly adapt to these digital requirements to ensure seamless adherence to statutory obligations under the Factories Act, 1948.
