Free Power Supply and Self-Help Groups: Telangana’s Strategy for School Transformation

The Chief Minister of Telangana instructed officials to take necessary measures to provide essential amenities in all government schools, emphasizing a significant overhaul to garner public admiration for these institutions. Free electricity supply to all government schools and colleges was mandated immediately. During a day-long review session at MCRHRD Institute, the Chief Minister proposed delegating the enhancement of basic infrastructure, ongoing monitoring, and provision of uniforms to Self Help Groups. This initiative aims to bolster the economic status of these groups while enhancing school functionality through consistent oversight. This Notification was published on 10.03.2024.

To elevate standards, the Chief Minister urged officials to study and adopt successful policies from other states. Funds for infrastructure enhancement will be expedited through a Green Channel. Digital classrooms are to be established in all government schools, with experienced teachers delivering lessons via T-SAT, alongside a focus on solar panel installation. The Education department is tasked with soliciting CSR funds and support from NRIs. All government school details will be made accessible on the official website. Completion of school improvements is targeted by the end of summer vacation, with a comprehensive analysis of the National Education Policy and engagement with academics for standards enhancement. A Governing Body akin to ISB will be established for the Skill University, with emphasis on NAC. Additionally, plans to extend the Facial Recognition Attendance System from the Secretariat to lower levels were discussed.
