The National Medical Commission (NMC) has announced a two-year extension for foreign medical graduates (FMGs) to complete their compulsory internship in India. This public notice was dated May 15, 2024.
It may be recalled that on May 9, 2023, the NMC validated a list of recognized non-teaching hospitals for FMG internships, previously issued by the Medical Council of India (MCI). This validation was initially valid for one year, until May 2024.
However, the NMC received requests from medical councils and FMGs citing challenges in securing internship placements. Therefore, the NMC has decided to extend the deadline for FMGs to complete their internships.
The extended deadline for FMGs is now fixed for May 2026.
This extension provides FMGs with more time to find internship placements and fulfill the requirement for NMC registration.
