The Food Safety and Standards Authority vide notification 21st April, 2022 has issued the draft Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Amendment Regulations, 2022. The amendment provides that the food category “processed nuts including coated nuts and nuts mixtures” also includes pan masala and arecanut based mouth fresheners.
It is further clarified that no synthetic food color permitted in pan masala and arecanut based mouth fresheners. Objections or suggestions on the draft regulations, if any, may be sent on email at regulation@fssai.gov.in within sixty days of publication.
