Food Businesses Get More Flexibility in License And Registration Modifications

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has announced a new provision for food businesses to streamline license/registration updates. An advisory on this provision was issued on May 16, 2024.

It may be recalled that in accordance with the Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Business) Regulations, 2011, Food Business Operators (FBOs) are required to keep their FSSAI license or registration information current.

This includes notifying the FSSAI of any changes like product category, layout, expansion, closure, or other significant details.

Previously, FBOs could only submit one license/registration modification application at a time. They then had to wait for the previous application’s approval before submitting a new one, potentially causing delays.

Therefore, the FSSAI has introduced a new feature in the FoSCOS (Food Safety Compliance System) portal. This allows FBOs to cancel a pending modification application and submit an updated one with the latest changes.

This update gives FBOs greater flexibility and potentially reduces processing time for modifications.

This information is intended for FBOs, industry associations, and other stakeholders in the food business sector.
