The Government of Punjab, under the Department of Health and Family Welfare, notified its intention to extend the provisions of the Employees’ State Insurance Act 1948, to the classes of specified establishments from January 1, 2024.
In essence, the notification serves as an official announcement of the Punjab government’s intention to extend the coverage of The Employees’ State Insurance Act, 1948 to specific classes of establishments. The establishments include the Municipal bodies including Municipal Corporation (Nagar Nigam),Municipal Councils, Nagar Palika & Other Urban Local Bodies run by State Government wherein ten or more persons on casual or contractual or both, basis are employed, or were employed for wages on any day of the preceding twelve months.
The notification reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring the welfare and health coverage for employees in various establishments within the specified regions of Punjab, as per the stipulations of the Act.
