The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has extended the validity of the provisional enrollment for 50 Non-Food Production (NFP) units involved in collecting used cooking oil (UCO) from food business operators (FBOs). This extension was granted by a notice dated August 5, 2024.
The extension will be valid until July 31, 2025, or until state-specific registration mechanisms are established as per the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas guidelines.
These NFP units, which convert UCO into products like biodiesel, soaps, and lubricants, will continue to operate under FSSAI’s guidelines and regulations. The authority reserves the right to cancel the enrollment of any unit found in violation of these rules or providing false information.
This extension aims to facilitate the proper management of UCO and promote its recycling for beneficial use.
