Establishment of Tobacco Cessation Centers in All Medical Colleges

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, in collaboration with the National Medical Commission (NMC), is establishing Tobacco Cessation Centers (TCCs) in all medical colleges across India. These centres shall be established in accordance to Operational Guidelines launched on May 31, 2024, on World No Tobacco Day. A public notice of this launch was issued on August 16, 2024.

This initiative, aligned with the Tobacco Free Youth Campaign 2.0, aims to provide comprehensive support to individuals seeking to quit tobacco. The centers will offer essential services and counseling to help people overcome addiction.

A mandatory webinar will be conducted on August 20, 2024 from 2pm to 3pm, to guide medical institutes on setting up and managing these centers. The Health Minister will virtually launch the TCCs during the Tobacco Free Youth Campaign 2.0.

By integrating tobacco cessation services into medical education and healthcare, the government aims to create a healthier and tobacco-free India.
