The Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has issued a memorandum extending the benefits of the ESIC Pensioners’ Medical Scheme to retired employees of NPS Subscriber and the family Members of the deceased employees under NPS Subscription in ESIC. The memorandum was issued on 6th January, 2023.
ESIC-Pensioners Medical Scheme, 2006 is optional and contributory in nature. It intends to provide the medical facility to the pensioners of ESIC on the lines of medical facilities being provided to the pensioners of Central Govt. through Central Govt. Health Scheme (CGHS).
At present this scheme is applicable only to pensioners of ESIC who are covered under CCS (Pension) Rules, 1972, and therefore, such pensioners who are covered under New Pension Scheme (NPS) are not covered under this scheme.
Various representations for extension of benefits of ESIC Pensioners’ Medical Scheme, 2006 to the retired employees covered under New Pension Scheme were received by ESIC from individual pensioners and their Association on the lines of the Central Govt. extended the Scheme to the Central Govt. retirees/family members of deceased NPS Subscribers of Central Govt.
Hence, ESIC has approved the extension of the facility of Fixed Medical Allowance OR medical facilities to NPS retirees and family members of the deceased employees under NPS Subscription in ESIC through ESIC Pensioners Medical Scheme, 2006. The terms and conditions of this benefits are specified in the present memorandum.
