EPFO SOP 2024: New Guidelines for Handling Transaction-less and Inoperative Accounts

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has introduced new procedures to enhance the management of transaction-less and inoperative accounts, effective August 2024. This updated SOP focuses on key areas: Universal Account Number (UAN) generation, Know Your Customer (KYC) seeding, and the unblocking process. This notification was published on August 2, 2024.

For transaction-less accounts, the process begins with UAN generation and linking, requiring physical verification through field offices or NAN 2.0 camps. Members may schedule appointments via the EPFiGMS portal, and home visits can be arranged for those with disabilities. KYC seeding must follow specific protocols depending on whether the establishment is live or closed.

The unblocking of accounts involves rigorous verification, including potential crowdsourcing to validate claims. This ensures greater security and accuracy in handling these sensitive accounts, ultimately aiming to reduce fraud and improve service efficiency.
