Ensuring Student Safety: New Guidelines for Schools in Delhi

In light of recent tragic events in Delhi, including drownings and electrocution incidents involving civil service aspirants, the Directorate of Education (DoE), GNCTD, has issued crucial safety guidelines for all schools. Principals and heads of both government and private-recognized schools must now adhere to these updated regulations to ensure student safety. This notification was published on July 31, 2024.

Key requirements include:

  • Compliance with the Master Plan for Delhi, 2021, for basement use.
  • Proper usage and accessibility of basements as per sanctioned plans.
  • All school gates must be functional and open for entry and exit.
  • Basements should be clearly marked and included in evacuation plans.
  • Corridors must remain unobstructed, with regular checks for water accumulation.
  • Measures must be taken to prevent water logging around school premises.
  • Electrical systems and appliances should meet safety standards.
  • Schools must have comprehensive fire safety measures in place.

These measures are mandated to prevent any unfortunate incidents and safeguard students effectively.
