Ensuring Fire Safety: Gujarat’s Updated Regulations for Building Owners

In a bid to enhance fire safety measures across Gujarat, the state government has introduced amendments to the Gujarat Fire Prevention and Life Safety Measures Rules, 2014. Effective from the date of publication in the Official Gazette, these updates primarily focus on the renewal process for Fire Safety Certificates. This notification was published on June 24, 2024.

Key Amendments: The amended Rule 25 now mandates building owners or occupants to apply for Fire Safety Certificate renewal at least two months before expiry. The Fire Safety Officer, upon request or suo-moto, will conduct inspections to verify compliance with the Act, rules, and regulations. Upon successful inspection, a Fire Safety Certificate Renewal (Form B 13.3) will be issued, valid for two years from the date of issuance.

Owners must ensure all fire prevention and safety measures are operational. Activities such as emergency mock drills are required, and compliance with the latest regulations is essential for certificate renewal. These amendments underscore Gujarat’s commitment to bolstering fire safety standards in buildings. By adhering to these revised rules, stakeholders contribute to a safer urban environment. For further details and application procedures, refer to the Gujarat Fire Prevention and Life Safety Measures (Amendment) Rules, 2024. This legislative update marks a significant step towards safeguarding lives and properties against fire hazards in the state.
