The Government of India has introduced new regulations for electrical appliances used for commercial dispensing and vending. The Electrical Appliances for Commercial Dispensing and Vending (Quality Control) Order, 2024, aims to ensure the quality and safety of these products. This Order was published on October 18, 2024.
Key Provisions of the Order
1.Mandatory Use of Standard Mark
Electrical appliances specified in the table must conform to the corresponding Indian Standards and bear the Standard Mark issued by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).
2. Exemptions:
- Goods or articles manufactured domestically for export are exempt.
- Micro and small enterprises have a grace period to comply with the standards, as specified in the table.
- Up to 50 units of imported goods can be used for research and development purposes by manufacturers without adhering to the standards. These goods cannot be sold commercially and must be disposed of as scrap.
The BIS is responsible for certifying and enforcing compliance with the standards.
Non-compliance with the order can result in penalties under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
