The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has notified the Electric Ceiling Type Fans (Quality Control) Order, 2023. This Order was issued on 9th August, 2023 and has come into force from 14th August, 2023.
According to the new Order, the compliance timeline varies for different categories of MSMEs. Small Enterprises will be required to adhere to the new standards from 14th May, 2024. On the other hand, Micro Enterprises have a grace period up till 14th August, 2024.
Compulsory Use of Standard Mark:
The Order mandates that specific goods or articles listed in the directive conform to the corresponding Indian Standard and bear the Standard Mark. This conformity must be ensured under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards, following Scheme-1 of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
However, it’s essential to note that this Order does not apply to goods or articles manufactured domestically for export. Additionally, goods produced by enterprises registered under the “Udyam portal” of the Ministry of Medium, Small and Micro Enterprises, with specific investment and turnover criteria, are exempted from the implementation of this Quality Control Order.
Certification and Enforcement:
The Bureau of Indian Standards will serve as both the certifying and enforcing authority for the goods or articles specified in the Order.
Penalty for Contravention:
Any person found contravening the provisions of this Quality Control Order will be subject to penalties as stipulated in the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
