Efficiency Boost: Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission Proposes Amendment

The Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) has proposed a significant amendment to enhance the efficiency of connection release in electrified areas. The draft amendment, titled the Draft Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (Supply Code and Performance Standards) (Fifth Amendment) Regulations, 2024, aims to streamline the process and reduce waiting times for consumers. This notification was published on June 7, 2024.

One notable change includes a revised timeline for connection release, categorizing areas based on population density. In metropolitan areas, where efficiency is paramount due to higher demand, the maximum time period for connection release will not exceed three days. This timeframe extends to seven days in urban areas and fifteen days in rural areas.

Moreover, the proposal also addresses scenarios where road cutting permissions or right of way (RoW) are required. It outlines clear timelines for such cases, ensuring transparency and accountability in the process.

The proposed amendment underscores DERC’s commitment to enhancing service standards and ensuring timely access to electricity for all residents of Delhi. By streamlining procedures and setting clear guidelines, the commission aims to improve consumer satisfaction and contribute to the overall development of the capital’s electricity infrastructure.
