Draft Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Amendment Regulations, 2021.

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India on 6th September 2021 has published the Draft Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Amendment Regulations, 2021to further amend the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations, 2011.

Through this amendment, regulation 2.3.14 which deals with restrictions relating to conditions for sale in which clause 4 has been substituted as follows:

“No person shall manufacture, sell, store or exhibit for sale food for infant nutrition, except under Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Certification Mark, wherever BIS standards available.

Regulation 2.3.14 restricts the sale of food articles in the premises where the sale of any insecticide is also carried out and the person should serve/sell the food in plastic articles which conform to food grade plastic.

It also provides the conditions for sale of various articles like iron-fortified salt, milk, and milk products, confectionery, protein-rich atta, edible oil etc as per the requirement of food safety and standards (packaging and labelling) regulation, 2011 AGMARK, BIS certification wherever necessary.
