DGFT allows digitally signed electronic certificates of origin to be used

The Director-General of Foreign Trade vide notification dated 6th April 2020 has clarified certain queries raised by the applicants on issue of retrospective certificate of origin under India’s trade agreement.

All these applications shall be processed by the authorized agencies of India and digitally signed copies shall be transmitted to the applicants. The physical copies of these certificates signed by the agencies authorized to issue these certificates of origin could be issued once the office of these agencies open.

The Notification urged all the authorized Indian agencies to levy the prescribed fee of Rs. 600 for the preferential certificates, irrespective of the fact that whether they are retrospective or not.

In the context of the certificates issued on a digital platform, it is requested to the importing countries to accept digitally signed certificates in the interim period until the exceptional circumstances on account of the COVID-19 pandemic is over.
