Department of fertilizers takes multi-pronged measures to stop diversion and black marketing of fertilizers in the country

Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Department of Fertilizers on 9th May 2023 published that multi-pronged measures have been taken to avoid the malpractices and ensure quality fertilizers for farmers. Special Forces of FFS have been constituted for strict vigilance.

FFS has conducted over 370 surprise inspections, filed 30 FIRs for diversion, 70000 bags seized of suspected urea etc. 112 mixture manufactures have been de-authorized due to several discrepancies and lapses in documentation. 11 persons have been jailed for diversion and black marketing of urea in the last one year.

These steps have resulted in keeping a check on diversion of urea. Govt. of India provides fertilizers at subsidised rates despite global shortage. So any illegal diversion leads to shortage. New mixture module has been developed in Integrated Fertilize Management System (iFMS) by Department of Fertilizers. Demand for Technical Grade Urea has increased. Due to strict licensing in states manufacturing units started selling bio and organic fertilizers.
