Delhi, Telangana, Karnataka and Gujarat Governments Announce Holidays for 2025

The Governments of Delhi, Telangana, Karnataka and Gujarat have declared the holidays that will be observed in all government offices within the respective states for the year 2025. All these lists were issued in November 2024.

Delhi

Compulsory Holidays

A comprehensive list of holidays has been released, including national and religious observances. Some of the key holidays include Republic Day, Independence Day, Gandhi Jayanti, Diwali, and Christmas. Additionally, several religious festivals celebrated by various communities in Delhi will be observed as holidays.

Optional Holidays

Besides the compulsory holidays, government employees will also be entitled to two additional holidays from a list of restricted holidays. This list includes various regional and cultural festivals celebrated in Delhi.

Telangana

The government of Telangana has provided a list of general holidays which includes national holidays like Republic Day, Independence Day, and Gandhi Jayanti, as well as religious festivals celebrated in the state.

Optional Holidays

In addition to the general holidays, state government employees will be allowed to avail five optional holidays from a list of specified festivals and occasions. This flexibility allows employees to choose holidays that are relevant to their cultural or religious beliefs.

Working Days and Weekend Rules

All state government offices will be closed on Sundays and second Saturdays, except for the second Saturday of February 2025, which will be a working day.

The notification also clarifies that the general holidays do not automatically apply to industrial establishments, public undertakings, public works departments, and educational institutions. These entities will have separate holiday calendars issued by the concerned administrative departments.

The notification mentions that any changes in the dates of Id-ul-Fitr, Id-ul-Adha, Muharram, and Id-e-Milad, based on moon sighting, will be announced through electronic or print media.

Karnataka

General Holidays

A comprehensive list of general holidays has been provided, which includes national holidays like Republic Day, Independence Day, and Gandhi Jayanti, as well as regional festivals like Ugadi, Dasara, and Diwali.

Optional Holidays

In addition to the general holidays, state government employees will be allowed to avail five optional holidays from a list of specified festivals and occasions. This flexibility allows employees to choose holidays that are relevant to their cultural or religious beliefs.

Working Days and Weekend Rules

  • All state government offices will be closed on Sundays, second Saturdays and fourth Saturdays.
  • The notification also clarifies that the general holidays do not automatically apply to educational institutions and certain other government departments, which may have their own holiday calendars.

Important Considerations

The notification mentions that if any of the Muslim religion holiday does not fall on the day notified, the Muslim Employees of Government may be granted an optional holiday on the day on which the holiday is actually observed.

Specific holidays, such as Shail Muhurta, Tula transit, and Huttri festival, have been declared for the Kodagu district.

The Commissioner of Public Education will issue a separate notification regarding holidays for educational institutions.

Gujarat

The Government of Gujarat has released a notification outlining the holidays to be observed by all state government offices, including banks, during the year 2025. The notification provides a detailed list of general holidays and optional holidays.

General Holidays

The list of general holidays which includes national holidays like Republic Day, Independence Day, and Gandhi Jayanti, as well as regional festivals like Diwali, Holi, and Dussehra.

Optional Holidays

In addition to the general holidays, state government employees will be allowed to avail two optional holidays from a list of specified festivals and occasions.

Working Days and Weekend Rules

All state government offices will be closed on Sundays and second and fourth Saturdays.

If any of the Muslim religion holidays notified above, does not fall on the day notified, the Muslim Employees of Government may be granted an optional holiday on the day on which the holiday is actually observed.

The holidays will also be applicable to all State Government Undertakings, Boards, Corporations and Panchayat offices. The government has also notified public holidays for banks in Gujarat in 2025.
