The General Administration Department of the National Capital Territory of Delhi on November 6th 2024 has announced that Thursday, 7th November 2024 will be observed as a public holiday across all government offices in Delhi. This holiday is being declared in celebration of ‘Pratihar Shashthi’ or ‘Surya Shashthi (Chhat Puja)’, a prominent festival celebrated by many in the region.
Chhat Puja, also known as Surya Shashthi, is a festival dedicated to the worship of the Sun God, Surya. The festival is widely observed in parts of Northern India, especially by the people of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Jharkhand. Devotees celebrate by offering prayers to the Sun God to seek his blessings for health, wealth, and prosperity. The rituals include fasting, standing in water bodies, and offering offerings at sunrise and sunset.
With this announcement, all government offices under the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi will remain closed on 7th November 2024
