The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has further extended the deadline for producers of batteries to file their annual returns for the financial year 2023-24. The new deadline is now March 31, 2025.
Previous Extensions
The original deadline for filing annual returns under sub-rule (11) of rule 4 of the Battery Waste Management Rules, 2022, was June 30th. The Ministry had previously extended this deadline twice:
- First extension: Order dated July 10, 2024
- Second extension: Order dated November 12, 2024 (extended the deadline to December 31, 2024)
Latest Extension
This latest extension, until March 31, 2025, comes in response to a request from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) dated January 10, 2025.
Battery producers now have additional time to compile and submit their annual returns for FY 2023-24. This extension aims to provide more flexibility and ensure accurate reporting while adhering to the Battery Waste Management Rules. Producers are still encouraged to submit their returns as soon as they are ready and not wait until the final deadline.
