Dairy Development in Goa: An Overview

The Mukhyamantri Sudharit Kamdhenu Scheme aims to enhance the dairy sector in Goa by providing financial assistance to farmers for purchasing crossbred cows and improved buffaloes. Eligible applicants must be bona fide residents of Goa for 15 years, possess a proper cattle shed, and commit to stall feeding their animals. New applicants must undergo dairy training, although experienced traditional farmers may be exempt. This notification was published on July 25, 2024.

The scheme promotes self-employment, boosts milk production, and encourages participation from scheduled caste and scheduled tribe communities. Farmers can receive subsidies for up to ten million animals, with significant financial support for cattle shed construction. Documentation such as a residence certificate, bank financing approval, and construction licenses are essential for the application. This initiative not only improves household incomes and nutrition but also contributes to rural economic development, providing a sustainable livelihood for many families in Goa.
