The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has directed all State Pollution Control Boards (SPCBs)/ Pollution Control Committees (PCCs) to ensure that waste battery recyclers generate Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) credits through the online EPR Portal.
It may be recalled that on February 7, 2024, the CPCB had previously directed the SPCBs/ PCCs to:
- physically verify premises of waste battery recyclers to check GPS location, geo-tagged photos and videos, type of recycler, installed plant and machinery and their capacities
- take action against recyclers that furnished false/ incorrect information on EPR portal
- make necessary changes to Consent To Operate (CTO) and inform the CPCB
The SPCBs/ PCCs have now been directed to undertake the following actions:
- issue notices to all battery waste recyclers who have not uploaded requisite documents/ invoices for generation of EPR credits on the EPR Portal
- suspend/ withdraw/ cancel CTO of defaulting waste battery recyclers
- verify documents/ invoices/ information uploaded by battery waste recyclers on the EPR portal for :
- quantity of waste battery procured or collected,
- key battery material recovered and sold
- authenticate installed plant and machinery and their capacities
