CPCB directs PWPs to generate EPR Certificates for Sales in 2022-2023

The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has issued directions to Plastic Waste Processors (PWPs) to generate Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Certificates for sales made in 2022-2023.

It may be recalled that as per EPR Guidelines, only PWPs registered on the EPR portal shall provide certificates for plastic waste processing, which shall be considered for fulfillment of EPR obligations by Producers, Importers, Brand Owners (PIBOs).

These PWPs include those engaged in recycling, waste to energy, waste to oil and industrial composting.

However, CPCB has observed that certain PWPs have not completed EPR Certificates generation through the EPR portal for the year 2022-2023. This obstructs registered PIBOs from fulfilling their EPR obligations.

Hence, the CPCB has now directed that all registered PWPs shall complete EPR certificates generation for sales made in 2022-2023 on the EPR Portal by 31st July, 2023.
