The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has issued a public notice warning industries, businesses, and the general public about individuals falsely claiming to be CPCB officers or consultants. These impersonators are reportedly entering establishments under the pretense of conducting pollution checks and issuing fraudulent instructions or notices. This notice was published on January 29, 2025.
Fake Inspections and Consultants
The CPCB has received reports of individuals falsely identifying themselves as CPCB officers or employees to gain access to industrial sites, operations, and construction areas. These individuals are allegedly conducting fake inspections and issuing unauthorized instructions or notices. The CPCB also warns against individuals claiming to be CPCB consultants, as the agency clarifies that it does not employ or authorize any such consultants.
The CPCB is urging industries, agencies, and the public not to entertain any requests, phone calls, or directions from these fake personnel. The agency emphasizes that legitimate CPCB officers will carry proper identification and follow established procedures.
Reporting Incidents
The CPCB is requesting anyone who encounters such fraudulent activity to report it immediately to the Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) or the Office of the Member Secretary at CPCB. Providing information about these incidents will help the CPCB take appropriate action against the impersonators.
This public notice aims to protect businesses and the public from potential scams or misinformation spread by these fraudulent individuals. By raising awareness and encouraging reporting, the CPCB hopes to prevent these impersonators from operating and ensure that legitimate environmental regulations are followed. The CPCB stresses the importance of verifying the identity of anyone claiming to represent the agency before complying with any requests or instructions.
