On 13th February 2025, the Chhattisgarh Government issued an official notification declaring the Chhattisgarh Shops and Establishments (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 2017 (Ka. 21 of 2018) as effective from the date of the notification.

Background:
- The Chhattisgarh Shops and Establishments Act, 2017, which was first published in the Chhattisgarh Gazette (Extraordinary) on 23rd August 2018, has been an important legislative development aimed at regulating employment conditions and ensuring workers’ rights within shops and establishments in the state.
- In addition, the Chhattisgarh Shops and Establishments (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Rules, 2021 were published on 3rd February 2022, laying down the rules for the implementation of the Act.

- As per the notification, the State Government has officially decided to enforce the provisions of the Act starting from 13th February 2025.
