CERC Seeks Public Input on Renewable Energy Tariffs

The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) is inviting comments from stakeholders on its proposal for determining generic tariffs for renewable energy projects in India.

In June 2024, CERC notified new regulations for determining tariffs for renewable energy sources.

These regulations establish a framework for setting generic tariffs at predetermined rates for specific categories of renewable energy projects.

CERC proposes to determine the generic tariff for the first year of the control period, i.e. July 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025. It has therefore published a proposal to the general public.

This tariff will apply to the following renewable energy project categories:

  1. Small hydro projects
  2. Biomass with Rankine cycle technology
  3. Non-fossil fuel co-generation
  4. Biomass gasifier based power
  5. Biogas based power
  6. Refuse derived fuel based municipal solid waste power

CERC is inviting comments, suggestions, and objections from stakeholders on the proposed generic tariff. Stakeholders can access the proposal on the CERC website and submit feedback by email until July 31, 2024.
