CERC Extends Deadline for Feedback on Inter-State Transmission Charge Regulations

The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) has announced an extension for stakeholders to submit comments and suggestions on the Draft Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (Sharing of Inter-State Transmission Charges and Losses) (Fourth Amendment) Regulations, 2024.

It may be recalled that CERC had originally fixed the deadline for receiving comments on this draft as November 11, 2024. CERC has now decided to grant an extension in this deadlines till November 25, 2024.

The CERC has granted this extension in response to requests from stakeholders who require more time to review the draft regulations and provide their feedback.

What are the Draft Regulations About?

These draft regulations propose amendments to the existing framework for sharing interstate transmission charges and losses. They focus on:

  • Expanding eligibility for transmission charge waivers to include offshore wind energy generators.
  • Extending waivers and introducing specific draw schedule percentages for new hydro projects with contracts awarded after June 30th, 2025.
  • Providing a 12-year transmission charge waiver for battery energy storage systems that commence commercial operation by June 30th, 2025.
