The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) has announced an extension for submitting comments on the proposed revision of the compensation mechanism for installing emission control systems in coal-based thermal power plants. This public notice was issued on July 25, 2024.
In an order dated August 13, 2021, CERC established a mechanism for competitively bid coal-based thermal power plants to recover the costs associated with installing emission control systems to comply with stricter environmental regulations. However, due to evolving circumstances, CERC is considering revising the compensation mechanism.
CERC has invited stakeholders to submit comments and suggestions on the proposed revisions by August 4, 2024. The deadline has been extended from the previously announced date of July 24, 2024.
The commission will also hold a public hearing on the matter on August 12, 2024, at 10:30 AM. This hearing will be conducted online via video conferencing and physically at CERC’s headquarters in New Delhi. Stakeholders interested in participating are encouraged to confirm their attendance by August 7, 2024, and specify their preferred mode of participation (online or in-person).
