Centre for Development of Advanced Computing is allowed to use Aadhaar authentication services for authentication or e-KYC of residents

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) on December 05, 2022, issued a notification that the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing is allowed to use Aadhaar authentication services, on a voluntary basis, for authentication or e-KYC of residents availing any government service through ‘e-Pramaan’ single sign-on platform subject to following conditions:

  1. The informed consent of the resident shall be obtained for the purpose of authentication as per the provisions of section 20 of the Aadhaar Act, 2016; 
  2. The purpose for which the Aadhaar number and related information is being sought, specifically, the manner in which the Aadhaar number is collected, stored, and used shall be communicated to the residents; 
  3. The resident shall be informed of the alternate mechanism of identification or verification as the instant usage of Aadhaar authentication is permitted purely on a voluntary basis; 
  4. There shall not be a denial of any service or benefit to the resident on account of the failure of Aadhaar authentication; 
  5. There shall not be a display of the Aadhaar number anywhere in the system, and wherever required only the last four digits of the Aadhaar number may be displayed; 
  6. If required, biometric authentication of beneficiaries shall be performed only in assisted mode or controlled environment by the operator registered or verified by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing.
