Central Government Reconstitutes National Assisted Reproductive Technology and Surrogacy Board

The Central Government has reconstituted the National Assisted Reproductive Technology and Surrogacy Board as per the provisions of the Assisted Reproductive Technology (Regulation) Act, 2021 and the Surrogacy (Regulation) Act, 2021. This notification was issued on November 11, 2024.

The modification amends the earlier notification dated May 4, 2022. The revised composition of the Board includes the Chairpersons of the States of Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana as ex-officio members. They will replace Chairpersons of the State/UT Boards of Andaman and Nicobar Island, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal and Uttarakhand in the Board.

The Board plays a crucial role in formulating guidelines, standards, and ethical principles for ART and surrogacy services. It also monitors the implementation of these regulations and takes necessary action to address any violations.

This reconstitution is expected to further enhance the Board’s capacity to regulate the ART and surrogacy sector, ensuring the safety, well-being, and rights of all stakeholders, including intended parents, surrogates, and children born through these processes.
