Central Government Notifies Implementation Of Transmission Schemes For Renewable Energy Zones

The Ministry of Power (MoP) has issued a notification for implementation of transmission schemes for the evacuation of power from renewable energy zones and system strengthening measures. The Ministry has notified additional transmission projects and their respective Bid Process Coordinators (BPCs) under the Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) Modes. This notification was issued on June 14, 2024.

The notification introduces the following transmission schemes:

  1. Transmission system for evacuation of power from Rajasthan REZ Phase-IV (Part-4: 3.5 GW) Part A, which involves augmentation of the transmission system at Barmer Power Station with various transformers and interconnection facilities. This project also includes the installation of switchable line reactors and other equipment, with a tentative implementation timeline of 24 months from the date of SPV transfer. The BPC for this project is REC Electrical Development & Consultancy Ltd.
  2. Transmission system for evacuation of power from Rajasthan REZ Ph-IV (Part-4: 3.5 GW): Part B. REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited will be the BPC for this project. The notification contemplates that the scheme will operate on a tentative timeline of 24 months from the date of SPV transfer.
  3. System strengthening at Koppal-II and Gadag-II substations for integrating renewable energy generation projects. This project includes augmenting various transformers and constructing line bays for renewable energy developers. The estimated implementation time for this project is from December 2025 to June 2027, with PFC Consulting Limited as the BPC.

The schemes specify detailed technical requirements for the transmission projects, including transformer capacities, interconnections, line lengths, and specific equipment to be installed.

They note that the provided line lengths are approximate and will be finalized after detailed surveys.

The developers of the respective power stations are required to provide spaces for the implementation of these transmission schemes.

It is pertinent to note that the Ministry’s guidelines govern the appointment of Bid Process Coordinators and these guidelines may be amended from time to time.
