In an effort to combat air pollution and enhance air quality management in the National Capital Region (NCR) and adjoining areas, the Central Government has introduced amendments to the Commission for Air Quality Management in National Capital Region and Adjoining Areas Act, 2021.
These amendments are poised to play a pivotal role in strengthening the commission’s capabilities and promoting effective governance in the region.
The key amendment introduced under section 3 of the Commission for Air Quality Management in National Capital Region and Adjoining Areas Act, 2021, is as follows:
(i) In the said notification, in paragraph 2, after serial numbers 2 and the entries relating thereto, the following serial numbers and entries relating thereto, shall be inserted, namely:
- Sl. No: 2B
- Name: Dr. Virinder Sharma
- Designation: Former Principal Urban Development Specialist, Asian Development Bank
- Role: Full-time Technical Member
Dr. Virinder Sharma’s appointment as a Full-time Technical Member of the Commission is expected to bring valuable expertise and insights to the table, given his extensive experience as a Principal Urban Development Specialist at the Asian Development Bank.
