Central Government declares continuation of status of public utility service enjoyed by the Transport Industry.

The Central Government has issued a notification dated 20th October 2022, extending the expiry of the status of public utility service enjoyed by the industry of Transport (other than railways) for the carriage of passengers or goods, by land or water. Central Government has declared the Transport industry to be a Public Utility Service for the purposes of the Industrial Disputes Act,1947 for a period of six months from 24th March, 2022 vide notification of the Government of India in the Ministry of Labour and Employment.

The Central Government has concluded, upon expiry of the six months, that public interest requires the extension of the public utility service status enjoyed by the said industry. Central Government has thereby declared the services engaged in the Transport industry to be a public utility service for a period of six months with effect from 20th October 2022.
