The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) is inviting comments from stakeholders on a revised draft document titled “Guidelines for the Periodicity of Type Tests for Major Equipment used in Electrical Power System.” These draft revised guidelines were issued on November 13, 2024.
It may be recalled that in 2022, the CEA issued the Guidelines for the Type Test Validity for Major Equipment of Power Sector. This document aimed to establish uniform test periodicity for various power equipment. It additionally aimed to streamline the type testing process and reduce unnecessary repetitions, while also minimizing burden on testing facilities.
Need for Revision
The CEA has received feedback from industry players highlighting inconsistencies in the periodicity of type tests for identical equipment used in different segments of the power sector, i.e., generation, transmission and distribution.
Objective of the Revised Guidelines
- Establish a consistent approach to type test periodicity for all power equipment across the sector.
- Optimize the frequency of type tests based on equipment characteristics and risk considerations.
- Define the effective date for type tests applicable to various equipment categories.
The CEA is seeking feedback from all stakeholders on the revised draft guidelines. Comments can be submitted electronically by November 29, 2024 to ce-psetd@gov.in.
