Amendments in Motor Vehicles Act notified on 9th August

The Ministry of Law and Justice on August 09, 2019, has published the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019, to further amend the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
Amendment has been brought in licencing process, registration and Fitness test. The Act will finally recognise app based cab aggregators like Ola and Uber and define them as a digital intermediary Amendment has also been made in relation to Recall of vehicles procedure.

Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, amends the Central Motor Vehicles Rules

The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways on July 26, 2019 has issued a draft notification seeking amendments to Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, for providing a boost to electric vehicles, ensuring friendly features for Differently-abled persons in buses, and providing an enabling mechanism for scrapping of vehicles older than 15 years.

Central Motor Vehicles (Fifth Amendment) Rules, 2019

The Central Motor Vehicles (Fifth Amendment) Rules, 2019, has been notified on 21 June 2019. The Changes brought about are: (i) At the time of renewal of Driving License, a certificate in Form 5A is also needed to be submitted – if renewal is for a licence to drive a heavy goods vehicle and a heavy passenger motor vehicle (ii) In the scope of syllabus for MEDIUM AND HEAVY VEHICLES DRIVING THEORY-II’, Stretch with at least one speed breaker and at least one left or right turn, shall be used for testing.
