West Bengal Expands Jurisdiction of Labor Tribunals and Courts

The jurisdiction of these tribunals and courts for adjudication disputes/cases has been broadened to include a wider range of labor laws, including the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947, the Employees’ Compensation Act, 1923, the Payment of Wages Act, 1936, and the Minimum Wages Act, 1948. The government has empowered the heads of directorates and judges-in-charge to distribute cases among tribunals and courts to ensure efficient disposal.

Supreme Court Upholds Rights of Disabled Medical Aspirants

The Supreme Court of India has upheld the rights of persons with disabilities (PwDs) to pursue medical education. The Court directed the government to take necessary steps to ensure reasonable accommodation for PwDs in medical colleges.
