NOTTO has observed that certain websites and social media posts are promoting illegal organ trading. Therefore, it has urged all state authorities to take stringent steps to deal with such illegal activities. Illegal organ trading is a serious crime that can result in a fine of Rs. 20 lakhs to Rs. 1 crore and imprisonment for 5-10 years.

Union Health Ministry Emphasizes Fire Safety in Hospitals

States and UTs must conduct routine assessments to identify potential fire hazards. They shall conduct regular fire drills to familiarize staff and patients with evacuation routes and safety protocols. Hospitals shall also implement fire safety plans.

Ayush Treatments Now Covered by Insurance

Experts propose a “flat rate” model considering longer treatment stays in Ayush compared to allopathic medicine. Additionally, categorizing treatments based on disease severity and patient health can optimize coverage. The Ministry of Ayush has formed a Core Group of Experts on Insurance to advise on insurance-related matters and create a white paper on the subject.

Delhi High Court Emphasizes Adherence To Timelines for Organ Transplantation

The Delhi High Court has passed an order establishing crucial guidelines for communication of deficiencies in documentation or any procedural
formalities. It has also stressed on adherence to timelines notified by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for processing transplant applications, verifying documents, and scheduling interviews.

Clarification Issued on Blood Center Licensing for Hospitals

CDSCO has clarified that “blood centers run by hospitals” means blood center located in the hospital premises. Applications for grant / renewal of license for blood center run by a hospital will be considered according to where such centre is located.
