BIS Revises Standards for Microbiology Tests of the Food Stuff

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has revised certain standards for microbiology tests of the food stuff. These notifications were published on March 21, 2024. These standards have been established on March 15, 2024. The previous versions of these standards shall stand withdrawn on April 14, 2024.

Insecticides (Second Amendment) Rules, 2024 Introduced

Any individual seeking a license for pest control operations involving Glyphosate and its derivatives will be automatically granted a license if the licensing officer fails to approve the application within thirty days of its submission. This provision is applicable upon submission of the application along with a fee of one thousand rupees for all designated operation areas involving the use of Glyphosate and its derivatives.

Patents (Amendment) Rules, 2024

The Controller may issue a duplicate certificate of inventorship to an inventor in respect of a patent in force on a request made by the inventor in Form-8A along with the fee and such request shall contain a statement setting out the circumstances in which the original certificate of inventorship was lost, destroyed, damaged or cannot be produced.

Enforcement Dates for Quality Control Orders Of Petro-Chemicals Extended

With the exception of Ethylene Vinyl Acetate Copolymers, the enforcement date for the quality control orders of the remaining three chemicals has been extended to October 24, 2024. However, the enforcement date for Ethylene Vinyl Acetate Copolymers (Quality Control) Order, 2022 will be October 3, 2024.

New Amendment Order Enhances Regulation of Lubricating Oils and Greases

It introduces a new clause, 9A, into the existing Lubricating Oils and Greases Regulation Order of 1987. Clause 9A pertains to the application process for inclusion under PART B of Schedule I of the regulation. Schedule I includes oil companies that are exempted form the definition of processor. According to the new clause, any company not specified under PART A of Schedule I and engaged in the business of processing lubricating oils and greases may apply for inclusion under PART B of the schedule.

Central Government Grants Authorization for Sale of Fermented Organic Manure

This decision promotes use of organic fertilizers, which are essential for enhancing soil health, improving crop yield, and reducing reliance on chemical-based fertilizers. The authorized manufacturers will play a crucial role in ensuring the availability of Fermented Organic Manure and Liquid Fermented Organic Manure to farmers, thereby contributing to the promotion of sustainable agriculture and environmental conservation.

Government Includes New Substances in Schedule of Insecticides Act, 1968

The Central Government, after consultation with the Central Insecticides Board, has introduced 11 new substances into list of insecticides under the Insecticides Act, 1968. Their inclusion aims to regulate and monitor their usage for pest control purposes while ensuring the safety and well-being of the environment and public health.
