NMC Invites Comments on the proposed draft for inclusion of Aadhar Enabled Biometric Attendance System (AEBAS) in Medical Colleges

The proposed amendment seeks to compulsorily implement an Aadhar Enabled Biometric Attendance System (AEBAS) of National Information Centre (NIC). It will be applicable to faculties, tutors, demonstrators and senior residents. The propsed amendment also states that in the absence of AEBAS, renewals, recognition or continuation thereof, increase in seats, establishment of new medical colleges or new PG course will not be permitted.

UGC Guidelines for Pursuing Two Academic Programmes Simultaneously

UGC has requested the Higher Educational Institutions to implement ‘Guidelines for Pursuing Two Academic Programmes Simultaneously’ for the benefit of the students and to devise mechanisms through their statutory bodies for allowing students to pursue two academic programmes simultaneously.

Ministry of Health and Family Welfare publishes ‘Reform, Perform and Transform’- Governance Reforms in Medical Education (2014-2022).

The booklet recognises that Health workforce is the most critical asset for health systems worldwide and in the post-pandemic era, is increasingly being recognized as a priority pillar to ensure equitable health coverage, locally, nationally and globally. The booklet goes on to state that the key area in which reforms will continue is the quality of education. The National Medical Commission (NMC) will ensure the effective implementation of a competence-based curriculum in all medical colleges, along with a focus on skill-based teaching.

UGC directs Autonomous Bodies, PSUs and Higher Educational Institutions to hold special drive on Sexual Harassment

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has stated that the Ministry of Education has decided that a special drive be conducted in all Autonomous Bodies (ABs)/ Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs)/ Higher Educational Institutions. The drive must include a series of activities that must be intimated to the gender sensitization division of UGC by December 11, 2022. The institutional Internal Complaints Committee should also conduct a special drive to review the pending cases and take appropriate action before 9th December, 2022.

NMC Requests Government Medical Colleges to Relieve Professors when Deputed on NMC Duty

The National Medical Commission (NMC) issues a Circular dated 29th November, 2022 that professors or associate professors of Government Medical Colleges are deputed as Assessors or Experts by NMC. This circular is addressed to all Government Medical Colleges. Whenever the NMC assigns duty to any Professor or Associate Professor, the Government medical colleges are requested to relieve them immediately.

NMC Publicises Fake Letter Issued in its Name

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued a Public Notice highlighting a fake letter issued in its name. The letter states that “Avicenna International Medical University (Bishkek) is recognised by National Medical Commission and Indian students can study here to become a doctor”. The NMC categorically states that the above letter is fake and has not been issued by the National Medical Commission.
