West Bengal Expands Jurisdiction of Labor Tribunals and Courts
The jurisdiction of these tribunals and courts for adjudication disputes/cases has been broadened to include a wider range of labor laws, including the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947, the Employees’ Compensation Act, 1923, the Payment of Wages Act, 1936, and the Minimum Wages Act, 1948. The government has empowered the heads of directorates and judges-in-charge to distribute cases among tribunals and courts to ensure efficient disposal.
Wage Hike for Part-Time Karmabandhus in West Bengal
The Government of West Bengal has announced a wage hike for part-time Karmabandhus paid out of contingency funds. The monthly remuneration for part-time Karmabandhus has been increased from Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 5,000. The revised wage will be applicable from September 1, 2024.
