FSSAI to hold drives on Quality Check of Nutraceuticals and Health Supplements

FSSAI has observed that nutraceuticals and health supplement products sold in the market are not compliant with the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards (Health Supplements, Nutraceuticals, Food for Special Dietary Use, Food for Special Medical Purpose, and Prebiotic and Probiotic Food) Regulation, 2022. Hence, in view of dealing with these non-compliance, special enforcement drives will be conducted to check quality and safety of these products.

FSSAI deploys Food Safety on Wheels to check Milk Adulteration

The notice indicates that FSSAI has deployed 168 Food Safety on Wheels (FSWs) mobile food testing labs across the country. These mobile labs will be testing various food products including milk and milk products. The testing facility shall be carried out free of cost and shall be monitored by the respective jurisdictional designated officer at the end of every month.

FSSAI guidelines and FAQ for submission of applications for endorsement of vegan logo and formats

The Food Business Operators (FBOs) seeking approval for endorsement of ‘Vegan Logo’ are required to submit the application fee as applicable or as revised by the Food Authority from time to time through the online e-payment portal (Link: https://epay.fssai.gov.in/fps/loadindex). The transaction receipt and invoice generated shall be submitted to the Food Authority as an enclosure to the application.

Direction regarding enforcement of Food Safety and Standards(Advertising and Claims) Second Amendment 2022

The amendment regulation 2 provides that, where the meaning of a trade mark, brand name or fancy name containing adjectives such as “natural”, “fresh”, “pure”, “original”, “traditional”, “authentic”, “genuine”, “real”, appearing in the labelling, presentation or advertising of a food is such that it is likely to mislead the consumer as to the nature of the food, in such cases a disclaimer shall be mentioned prominently on the front of pack of the label stating that this is only a brand name. The enforcement of this provision is extended till 13 June, 2023.

Any person desirous of making any suggestion in respect of the said draft rules, may forward the same, within the period specified above, to the Agricultural Marketing Adviser to the Government of India, Directorate of Marketing and Inspection, Head Office, CGO Complex, NH – IV, Faridabad (Haryana) 121001, who shall forward the same to the Central Government for consideration.

FSSAI de-recognises and de-notifies in-house testing laboratories of FBOs

FSSAI has initiated the process of de-notification of all such laboratories. Accordingly, the Food Authority has de-notified the in-house laboratories of ‘M/s ITC Foods Pvt Ltd ’Agri Business Division – ILTD, Spices Laboratory, Guntur’ and ‘Nutralytica Research Private Limited, Nashik on 18th October, 2022.

FSSAI issues an updated list of Recognised Food Testing Laboratories

The present list includes the validity of the laboratories’ NABL accreditation, scope of testing as on 15th February, 2023 for the purpose of carrying out the analysis of food samples taken under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and Rules and Regulations made there under.
