FSSAI issues Protocol on Methods of Fortificant Testing for Rice
The entire sample must be ground into a homogenous mixture before weighing the sample for analysis. The remaining quantity of tested samples should be preserved for at least 3 months from the date of reporting. The samples shall be stored in refrigerators at temperatures of 5 to 10 degree celsius.
FSSAI to conduct PAN-India Milk & Milk Products Surveillance 2023
In order to sustain the mandate of providing safe & wholesome food for human consumption, the said survey will be initiated with an objective to assess the Milk & Milk products sold in the country for compliance of the quality and safety parameters as given in FSSR, to identify hotspots for adulteration in milk and milk products & to devise corrective actions/ strategies based on the results of the study and suggest a way forward.

FSSAI press release regarding deceptive advertisements by food business operators
FSSAI has issued press releases regarding deceptive advertisements by food business operators. Advertisement Monitoring Committee of FSSAI has reported 32 fresh cases which have been found prima facie in contravention of the provisions of Food Safety and Standards (Advertisements & Claims) Regulations, 2018.
FSSAI directions regarding claims in advertisements by FBOs
Where a claimed health benefit is attributed directly to the product, it shall be based on statistically significant results from well-designed human intervention studies, conducted by or under guidance of established research institutions, in line with the principles of GCP (Good Clinical Practices) and peer reviewed or published in a peer reviewed reputed scientific journal.
FSSAI launches FOSCOS in regional languages
The availability of the FOSCOS application in Hindi and all regional languages will also help the FBOs in getting a better understanding of the Food Safety Compliance System. The availability of the system in Hindi and all regional languages will lead to a higher rate of confidence and increased participation by FBOs.
Use of Non-retail Pre-printed Bulk Tea Packages Extended
FSSAI has decided to grant time extension of 6 months for 2nd permission to Tea Manufacturing FBOs/Estates to use non retail bulk tea packages.
Temporary Downtime of FoSCoS Portal
The FoSCoS portal will remain non-operational for 3 days i.e. 28th April, 2023 to 30th April, 2023. This is due to scheduled migration activity of database server.
