The minimum wage provisions of the Minimum Wages Act, 1948 will now apply to the employment in the “Food Processing Industry and Food Parks” in Telangana. This amendment ensures that workers in the food processing industry and food parks in Telangana will be entitled to receive minimum wages as mandated by the Minimum Wages Act, 1948.

FSSAI directs ban on use of Packing Films around Sweet Boxes
The FSSAI points out that the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) had notified the Plastic Waste Management Amendment Rules, 2021. The amendment prohibits manufacture, import, stocking, distribution, sale and use of single use plastic items. Hence, Food Business Operators (FBOs) are directed to ensure that no packing films are used to wrap/ pack sweet boxes.

Central Government reduces Basic Import Duty on Edible Oils
The decision comes as part of the government’s efforts to implement measures aimed at reducing the prices of Edible Oils in the domestic market. By lowering the Import Duty on Refined Sunflower Oil and Refined Soyabean Oil, the government aims to benefit consumers and ease domestic retail prices.

In the meeting, the state governments were asked to continuously monitor the prices and verify the stock positions of stock-holding entities and take strict action on those who violated the stock limits order.
