Delhi Breathes Uneasy As Air Quality Crisis Triggers Emergency Measures

Officials reviewed weather forecasts and air quality predictions, which indicate the “Very Poor” air quality is likely to persist for several days due to unfavorable meteorological conditions. Consequently, the Sub-Committee decided to invoke Stage-II of the revised GRAP for the entire National Capital Region (NCR). Effective October 22, 2024, a stricter set of regulations will be implemented across the NCR in addition to existing Stage-I measures.

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change notified the Draft Liquid Waste Management Rules 2024 The rules apply to both urban and rural local bodies, as well as all public authorities involved in wastewater management.

Central Government Rescinds Environment-Friendly Product Labeling Scheme

The Central Government has decided to rescind its Resolution on the Scheme for Labelling of Environment – Friendly Products, which was introduced in 1991. The Scheme on Labelling of Environment Friendly Products was introduced on February 20, 1991 by G.S.R. 85(E). The scheme operated on a national basis and provided accreditation and labelling for household and other consumer products which met certain environmental criteria along with quality requirements of the Indian Standards for that product. The Label was known as the “ECOMARK”.
